Cooler temperatures were much appreciated at this year’s Lake Norman Sprint. Last year’s 95 degree water temperature had been replaced by a much more comfortable 83 degrees. Alice Howard-1st place Women’s 40-44 (16th OVERALL!) Heather Williams/Melissa Snodgrass-2nd Place Women’s Relay Jon Heigel-3rd Place Clydesdale (39th OVERALL!)

Several QCTC members participated in the Lowes Motor Speedway Time Trials this past Wednesday evening. During the course of the evening, there was an accident involving a photographer and a cyclist. Just after finishing his own time trial, QCTC President Eric Morrison, a professionally trained EMT-paramedic, ran to lend assistance to the injured photographer until medical assistance arrived on the scene. Hard for Eric to get away from work! Eric Morrison does not meet a stra ...

Despite rain all day, it turned out to be a perfect night for racing at Lowes on Wed 13th. The Carolina Cycling Time Trial Association puts on a great event. The time trial consists of either a 10 mile (7 laps) or 40k (17 laps) event, with cyclists riding on the flat portion of the track. Each lap is approximately 1.47 miles. This is a great opportunity to put your own cycling skills to the test. The event draws cyclists of all abilities. Time starts are staggered so that riders are typically on the track with cyclists of similar speed.
We had a strong showing by the QCTC crew: Eric Morrison 25:54 Craig Smarr 26:42 Christian Racz 29:00 Heather Williams 29:59 Karen Morrison 30:25

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but apparently there is still a drought going on. We found that out the hard way this weekend at the 3rd Annual Lake Logan Olympic. Last year, the swim finish was a convenient 30 yds or so from the transition area. This year, the swim start/finish had to be moved because of low lake levels. When the Race Director recommends that you bring a pair of shoes for the run from swim finish to T1, you know there’s an issue. The average participant had a T1 time of nearly 7:30 thanks to the location change. Congratulations to Matt Phillips, Melissa Snodgrass, Heather Williams, and Eric Morrison for great races.
